We have been very, very busy the last few weeks with preparing and packaging our Cioppino for shipment around the country in time for holiday dinners (in addition to serving our local customers). We want to let all of our concerned friends, family, and patrons know that Phil is healthy and still here at the market nearly every day. Sadly, we regret to announce that Phil’s cousin Phil (it’s an Italian custom to name the first born son after their grandfather—so there are six Phil’s in the family) passed away last week. Phil was the son of Tony and Frances, brother of Richard, Rena and Tina. He was married to Jane and he taught in the Salinas schools for many years. He will be missed by all. Thank you you for your concern and please send your loving thoughts to Phil’s family and friends.

It seems like just yesterday (way back in May!) that we had a great film crew from the Travel Channel's "Food Paradise" show in the shop, enjoying what we bring to our amazing guests. Well, they just informed us that our segment will be on the air this Sunday (September 3rd) at 9:00 PM (8:00 PM Central Time). We're very excited and looking forward to watching this weekend! We wanted to let all of our friends and fans know that tomorrow (Monday, August 21st) we are going to do our best to train our live webcam on the solar eclipse. We don't know what the conditions will be but we thought we'd share a safe way of viewing the eclipse with those that are interested. We'll train the cameras on the sun starting at about 10:00 AM Pacific Time and keep it going until totality fades away (totality should be at about 10:15 AM and should be around 75% here in Moss Landing). We can't promise anything spectacular, given the changing weather conditions, but it should be fun nevertheless! A few days ago we had a visit from the camera crew for the Travel Channel's Food Paradise stop by. We had a great time showing them around as they interviewed customers, highlighted some of our specials, and generally made for a fun day! Stay tuned for updates on when the segment will air!

We can let the cat out of the bag now--Taylor Hicks didn't just stop by for a visit last September. He was filming an episode of his new show, State Plate, for INSP. The episode will air on INSP on Friday, February 10th at 9:00 pm, Eastern Time (check your local listing for air time). Phil had a wonderful time hosting Taylor and showing him how to make his famous cioppino. He also shared a few words of wisdom regarding the joy of cioppino that we think relates to how all of the food we serve up is meant to be enjoyed. Phil said, “It’s not a meal that you eat quick and run out. It’s a meal you eat with friends, with your family, you enjoy. It takes you an hour, maybe two hours.
